What FSSC 22000 Certification Means

FSSC 22000 is a food safety management certification recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). It tells you a facility runs a documented, audited food safety system — not just that it claims to.

What the certification covers

FSSC 22000 certifies a facility's food safety management system: how it controls hazards, trains people, documents processes, and handles problems. It is built on ISO 22000 plus sector-specific requirements, and it is audited by independent certification bodies.

What it doesn't mean

  • It certifies the facility and its food safety management system — not a specific brand or product.
  • It is not a product approval or an endorsement of any health claim.
  • Like every certificate, it has a validity period — always check the dates.
A certificate is a fact with a date on it. Read the date.

How to read any certificate

Look for four things: the legal name of the certified company, the certification body that issued it, the scope of what was certified, and the validity dates. A brand that shows you all four is showing you something real.

Honest note: certification information is provided for informational purposes and should be interpreted according to the scope and wording of the applicable documentation.
